Sauna Incana
a little grey sauna by the alders
Our sauna is situated between two small ponds. From the sauna bench a large window provides a clear view of our frog pond. You’ll cool down on the porch where the woodland sounds serenade.
The porch also has a rustic outhouse.
A Finish Style Wood Fired Sauna
Our sauna was built and carefully designed with your relaxation in mind. A sauna is much more than a room with a heat source and our intention is to provide an optimal sauna bathing experience.
Our benches, crafted from basswood, are at a height where your body will experience the most even heat. We are very happy with our Kuuma stove, made in MN, it roars! The floors drain under the benches. The shell of our sauna is well insulated with walls clad in cedar. And most importantly the sauna is well ventilated so that you leave feeling better than when you arrived.
Sit, warm up, add löyly - steam and breathe. And of course, sweat!
My first sauna experience was in the winter of 2007 in Steuben Maine. The sauna was in a building that encompassed a boat building shed and a retired sourdough bread bakery at Maine Seaweed. Whether warming up after a cold morning of seaweed harvesting in the spring or after a cross-country ski with sun setting across the rolling Maine landscape, I continue to enjoy sauna bathing. Another time I experienced a small electric sauna on a deck in Mendocino County California where after sharing a stories, songs and some silence, a meal was shared with friends. My partner and I have traveled across the country dipping into many hot springs; here in Maine we have saunas.
Cheers!
